– One-hour Endurance kart race, young karters on show
Riding high on the success of last year, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) will be aiming to replicate that performance when it stages its season opening event on January 29, at the club’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
The entity has planned a Fun-Day that will see an Endurance Go-Kart race as the feature event, while fans will also be able to see the emergence of a fleet of young and upcoming competitors in the go-kart category.
Kaieteur Sport paid a visit to the facility on Monday afternoon and solicited an interview with one of the coordinators if the event, Wayne Vieira, who spoke of some of the plans for the day’s activities.
Vieira told this newspaper that the day’s main event will be the one-hour Endurance race featuring no more than nine machines owned by the club with an allotment of three drivers permitted to drive during the period and a total body weight of 450 lbs between them.
“The three designated drivers cannot have less than 450 lbs, but will be allowed to weigh in excess of that,” Vieira said.
He added that at the completion of the Endurance race, there will be a number of sprint races featuring the Shifter and Rotax go-karts, while a demonstration of skills and dexterity among the young and emerging band competitors should also highlight the day’s proceedings.
Starting time is 14:00 hrs.
According to Vieira, the action then shifts to the South Dakota Circuit the following weekend (February 5) when the club once again holds a Meet for rookie car drivers, ‘B’ Class Super bikers, 125cc motor bikes and karters both in the same Shifter and Rotax categories with each division assigned three races.
Among the young guns expected to display their skills and abilities are Elliot Vieira, Matthew Vieira, Mikhail Seereram, Denzil Hopkinson, Raymond Seebarran, Alex Fiedtkou, Matthew and Jonathan Phang and Edward and Alex Powers for the boys, while the girls will be spearheaded by Britney Seereram, Emma Vieira, Stacy and Serena Ming and Alexandria Phang.
