As police continue their investigation in the death of 40-year-old Afroze Ali called ‘Lizzy’ of Zeelugt, East
Bank Essequibo the main suspect in the matter is still on the run.
The man who reportedly made the discovery has since vanished from the community and police continue to search for him. In the meantime relatives are awaiting the results of the post mortem which is scheduled for tomorrow.
Relatives of the dead woman said that on Sunday night residents and members of the Community Policing Group were searching for the suspect who has been identified as ‘Sunny’. This publication was told that the man was spotted sleeping in a tree in the area but made good his escape into bushes after he saw the group.
Relatives of the dead woman say they believe that ‘Sunny’ was somehow involved in the woman’s demise.
Ali was found half naked on Sunday at around 11:00 hours after ‘Sunny’ informed the woman’s relatives that she was dead and in the burial ground. Shortly after relatives confirmed what the man had told them, he vanished.
Residents say that ‘Sunny’ has been a nuisance to the community for a number of years carrying out some bizarre acts. One resident said in one incident ‘Sunny’ dug out both eyes of a sheep in the area and another time he chopped a dog to death.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that Ali would frequent the area where she was found dead and was seen in ‘Sunny’s’ company on more than one occasion. This publication was also informed that the woman was an alcoholic.
Relatives say she had gone into a state of depression some 13 years ago following the brutal murder of her husband who was caught in a triangular love affair.
Ali’s body was found on Sunday morning in the Zeelugt Burial ground near what appears to be a shallow grave which someone was digging. Investigations are ongoing.
