Dear Editor,
During the last fortnight I have come to notice that the current” rape” allegation against Commissioner of Police Mr. Henry Greene has attracted a lot of attention both locally and overseas.
My question: Is Mr. Greene the only public official to be fingered in rape allegations because if my memory serves me right, there are persons who are in very senior positions in this country who have allegations similar in nature being levelled against them.
Did we see the big brouhaha to have a team of external investigators being brought here? No, that could not have happened period. Seems as though certain sections of society are hell bent on getting rid of Mr. Greene who may be a thorn in the path for some with their own upcoming ulterior motive(s).
Sometime back the Kaieteur News had published an article on the various infractions that Mr. Greene’s accuser is allegedly involved in and any legal and fair minded persons will see a common pattern, extortion! That is the one word that comes to mind.
Let us not go very far, take a look at the much publicised case with Dominic Strauss khan the former head of the IMF. There was a similar allegation made against Mr. Khan too and the only reason that he is a free man is because the credibility of the victim could not have stood up for scrutiny.
The prosecutors in the US could not get a conviction on Mr. Khan and I want to suspect that there is a strong possibility that Mr. Greene’s case may very well end up in the same direction.
Another mind boggling thing to note is that at the moment there is a hue and cry on how tax payers’ monies are being spent but to bring in a team of external investigators and to accommodate them, whose money is being spent?
My reason for saying this is that we have some very competent people around who are capable of carrying out the kind of transparent investigations that we want; so for me personally I do not see the need for an overseas investigative team.
By the way I’m no sympathizer or supporter of Mr. Greene because I have some issues with him in the past but my contention here is what is good for one is good for all.
