– Sister slowly recovering
The three-year-old who was run over on Wednesday last by a privately-owned mini bus has
succumbed to his injuries.
The toddler, Komal Balkaran, succumbed around 17:30 hrs yesterday in the Incentive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He had sustained severe head injuries.
On Wednesday, last, Balkaran and his 19-year-old sister were returning to their Quaker’s Hall, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara home when a privately-owned mini bus swerved from a car and hit both Balkarans.
The minibus then overturned, pinning Komal to the ground.
Neighbours ran to the accident scene and managed to pull the child from under the bus.
An eyewitness told this publication that after the toddler was pulled out from under the bus, his face was bloody and ‘disfigured’.
Both siblings were rushed to the city hospital. Sita was admitted to the Accident and Emergency Unit (A&E), and then transferred to the Female Ward while the toddler was immediately taken in the operation room, where he underwent surgery, and then transferred to the ICU, where he spent three days until he succumbed.
