One of the men who allegedly set an Angoy’s Avenue resident on fire after accusing him of stealing a goat has been remanded on an attempted murder charge.
Jourard Wright, called ‘Blackie’ of Lot 248 Tucber Park New Amsterdam Berbice appeared on Monday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo.
Prosecutor Inspector Donna Grant Fraser told the court that on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Tucber Park, the 24-year-old accused, while in company with others, lit Duff on fire, to cause him grievously bodily harm with intent to commit murder.
In opposing bail, the prosecutor stated that Duff is still in a critical condition in The New Amsterdam Hospital and the other accused are still at large.
The men allegedly encountered Duff, 32, in New Amsterdam before encouraging him to board a car they were in.
He was taken to Tucber Park where Wright lives and accused of stealing their goat. The men then threw the Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam resident in a goat pen, doused him with gasoline and chained him before setting him alight.
Wright was arrested and charged while his two accomplices remain at large.
Duff suffered first, second and third degree burns about his body and is still a patient in the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Police are still looking for the other accused, known as ‘Tout’ and Clevon Thomas.
