Attorneys representing the family of five-year-old Antuane Lovelle have written to the Guyana Power
and Light (GPL) regarding the circumstances surrounding his death last month.
GPL’s Chief Executive Officer Bharrat Dindyal disclosed that the company received the document this week from the law firm Hughes, Fields and Stoby, which is representing the family.
The CEO declined to comment about the stage of the investigation because of this new development.
He had previously told Kaieteur News that GPL has completed a preliminary investigation into the death of the five-year-old. At the time, Dindyal had confirmed that the burst wire that the child came into contact with was “a GPL service connected to the (victim’s) house.” But he also said that investigators had to ascertain what caused the wire to burst.
Lovelle was reportedly electrocuted when he came in contact with a faulty GPL wire, which had, his mother, Nichola Pyle alleged that the wire was defective and that the GPL crew had ignored two previous appeals to get it fixed.
The boy’s relatives related that the wire leading to their house was crudely joined in several places and was dangling dangerously.
A neighbour recalled seeing little Antuane and his brother playing in the yard.
He said that he saw when Antuane suddenly stopped and appeared to be trembling.
