After losing first innings points to Skeldon Community Centre by just 4 runs, No.70 Young Star stormed back to take full points which saw them ending atop of the Upper Corentyne Zone at the end of the preliminary rounds, thus earning a place in the quarterfinals of the Memorex sponsored 2011 Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 cricket competition in Berbice.
In the match, which was played at No.70, saw Young Star, winning the toss and batting first, and were bowled out for 134 in their first innings with Akshay Homraj top scoring with 31 and Akash Persaud making 22. Bowling for Skeldon, off spinner Deon Hakeem Esau took 5 for 39 and pacer Devendra Roopchand 4 for 18.  When Skeldon Community Centre replied, they were bowled out for 138 in their first innings. Jameel Jackman made 34 and Esau 27. Homraj (off spin) came back with the ball to take 4 for 63; Thameshwar Kumar, also bowling off spinners, took 3 for 46.
When No.70 Young Star took the crease for a second time facing a deficit of 4 runs, they rattled up a quick 202 for 4 declared with Homraj contributing 108 not out, Akash Persaud 24 and Kieran Chaitram 22*. Bowling for Skeldon, Esau who took 2 for 28.
Skeldon Community Centre, set a target of 199 for an outright win in just over two hours of play left in their second innings, faltered badly and were bowled out for 165 with Esau hitting a futile 82 and Devendra Roopchand 20.
Thameshwar Kumar grabbed 3 for 42 and Homraj, rounding off a fine all-round performance as Esau had done, took 2 for 61 to see Young Star to a 33-run victory.
