-DPP could advise by next week
The Director of Public Prosecutions could be in a position to advise the police on the rape allegations
against Commissioner Henry Greene by next week.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Kaieteur News yesterday that the investigations into the matter are progressing satisfactorily.
The local criminal investigations department is being assisted in the probe by their counterparts from the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
“The investigation is progressing at a rate that it is likely, that the file will reach the DPP by Monday,” the Crime Chief said. Kaieteur News was reliably informed that the rape allegation was officially put to the Commissioner yesterday.
Persaud declined to go into details about the investigations.
“He had to meet with CID today (Wednesday) and he was there but I don’t know what transpired,” a source told this newspaper.
It is not yet clear if Greene has given a statement on the matter.
Greene has declined to comment on the matter whenever he is questioned by sections of the media, claiming that, “God will be his judge.”
Last month, a 34-year old mother in a tell-all interview with several media houses, alleged that she was raped by Greene, after she went to him for assistance in a matter that was engaging the police.
President Donald Ramotar in accepting Greene’s request to proceed on leave, had instructed that overseas investigators be called in to handle the matter in order to give the investigation some amount of impartiality.
Since their arrival last week, the Jamaican investigators have interviewed a few persons and have visited the Georgetown location
where the incident allegedly took place. They are expected to present their report to the DPP before they leave Guyana.
Meanwhile, the police are still investigating that other matter against the woman who is accused of attempting to blackmail another woman who she had caught in bed with her husband.
Police sources said that the report on that matter, which also involves an allegation that Greene’s accuser was fondled by her rival’s policeman husband, will soon be sent to the DPP for advice.
