Changes made as prize money increased for Norman Singh Turf Club opening act

With the 2012 Horses Racing season set to be as hectic as 2011 and even more competitive, the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at No6 Bel Air, West Coast Berbice has confirmed that they will this year stage the first race meet of the season.  That meet is set for January 29, just ahead of the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sport Facilities meet, which is set for the following week, Sunday February 5, which was traditionally the first race meet for the season.
The club in collaboration with the Winners Circle, Pool Hall and Bar and Rommel Jagroop and Sons Construction Company has already increased the prize money to close to $6.5M from an original  $6M for the eight-race event.
The winning money in the feature B and lower event is set at over $2.3M including trophy the winner’s purse of $1.2M and trophy over 1600M.
The other events remain the same with the distances being over 1200 M.   The list reads: Three Years old Guyana and West Indies Bred race for winning money of $500,000.  The E and Lower match up for a first prize 400,000.   The specially arrange 4 year old event also has winnings set at 400,000.
There is the three year old event for Guyana Bred and Born horses with a first prize of $300,000.
The G class gallop has a purse of $300,000.  There are also events for ‘I’ and lower animals and the Division 1, 2 and 3 animals with the top prize being $200,000 and $150,000 respectively.
The top individual performers including top Jockey, stable and horses will receive accolades compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
According to organizer Rommel Jagroop the clubs are working to avoid clashes and have a comprehensive racing programme throughout the year.
