John Blanchard, after appearing before Magistrate Lesley Sobers at the Providence Magistrate Court,
was yesterday granted an application made by his lawyer to have a psychiatric evaluation conducted.
The request which was previously made by Defense Counsel Peter Hugh, was granted by the court as to determine whether the father is mentally fit to stand trial.
Blanchard is facing murder charges where he is alleged to have chopped his three children to death at their Soesdyke home late last year.
The kids, whose ages ranged from four to ten years old, lost their lives when their father allegedly attacked them with a cutlass.
Daniel and Belika Blanchard died instantly while Joy Blanchard succumbed days later at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Blanchard will make another court appearance on February 20.
