The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the death of Queen’s College student, Neesa Lalita Gopaul, continued yesterday, and resuming his evidence –in –chief led by state prosecutor, Pritima Kissoon, was Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hugh Jessemy.
The officer further related his evidence before acting Chief magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry who is presiding over the matter.
The police witness continued to relate to the court what he had done during the investigation of the crime and a confrontation allegedly held between witnesses and the accused.
Present was Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos who made numerous objections to the line of questioning the prosecution posed. The lawyer is representing Jarvis Small. Attorney Vic Puran, who is representing co-accused Bibi Sharima Gopaul, the mother of the dead girl, was absent from yesterday’s proceedings .
The matter lasted for approximately one hour and half. The witness will return on the next occasion to be cross examined by the defendants’ lawyers.
The case was adjourned until January 17.
