The horses racing season for 2012 seems like it will be hotly contested. However turfites are hoping that it does dot degenerate like Cricket and Football with different factions and different multimillion dollars events on the same day.
Just a few days after, the Ryan Crawford Turf Club will stage a meet on February 5 dubbed the opening act for the 2012 racing season. The Norman Singh Turf Club in collaboration with the Winners Circle Pool Hall and Bar will hold their programme on January 29 at their NO6, Bel Air West Coast, Berbice track.
The event has sponsorship of over $6M with eight races listed to be contested on the day. The feature event will once again be for horses classified B and Lower with a first prize of $1M and trophy.
The full list of events are, B and Lower with a first prize of $1M over 1600M, a distance that will gave all the competing animals a fair chance.
All the other races are 1200M events. There are two three year old events listed on the day’s programme with one for Guyana and West Indies Bred horses that has a winners money of $500,000 while the other three year old event is for Horses Bred and Born in Guyana for a first prize of $300,000.
The E and Lower event is another co-feature with the pole position money set at $400,000.
There is a special event for 4 year old horses that has an attractive winning purse of $400,000.
The G class winner will also pocket $300,000.
The winner of the ‘I’ and lower event will race away with $200,000 while the top animal in the Division 1, 2 and 3 race will get $150,000. All the winners will also get trophies.
The top individual performers including top Jockey, stable and horses will all get trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
