The Guyana Cricket Board has sent congratulations to Christopher Barnwell and his team on their fighting victory over the Leeward Islands at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
The Board notes the unity and cohesion that emanated from the team on the field of play and urge the team to remain positive and to, once again, make the Golden Arrowhead proud by winning the tournament.
The team in its reply stated, “We have been made aware of the support shown for us at home and by our citizens based here, and it is the fuel that drives our engine, we wish to thank the Guyana Cricket Board for representing us and ensuring we got the opportunity to play.”
The team indicated despite the victory, they have already focused on Friday’s clash with Trinidad & Tobago.
The team held an intense practice session at the Factory ground, and will have practice sessions everyday this week which have been organized through the kind offices of the West Indies Cricket Board.
The team thanked the board once again for the herculean efforts made on their behalf to ensure they were able to take the field of play and showcase their wares.
The Guyana Cricket Board has had to rely on its umbrella body to provide support for the team, an unaccustomed position for the usually well organized team, and is proud of the performance of our players, who have had to overcome sixteen days of worry en-route to their first game.
We urge all those who love this game to give support to these brave men who have kept the Golden Arrowhead flying proudly and with distinction.
