A man, who allegedly assaulted his wife after accusing her of infidelity, yesterday pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault and was granted bail.
Danraj Assibad, of Lot 249 Caneville Grove, East Bank Demerara, was ordered to post $40,000 bail by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry.
Assibad allegedly assaulted Kamala Assibad, the mother of his four children, last Boxing Day.
The police claimed that on December 26, last year, at Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara, Assibad accused his wife of cheating on him and thus placed a rope around the woman’s neck and dragged her up the stairs.
The police said that Assibad had also beaten his wife with a cutlass and subsequently taken out his penis and ordered the woman to perform oral sex.
Assibad, the facts continued, locked his wife in their home and went out. Mrs. Assibad escaped from the home and subsequently made a report at the police station. The man was later apprehended.
The husband denied ever giving the woman such abusive treatment. He explained that on the day prior to the alleged beating, he had gone out with his wife and children and joined a bus on the East Bank to return home. He claimed he left his family in the bus and went to buy something, but on his return, he said his wife and children could be found.
He claimed that his wife showed up at their home the following day and after questioning her, she “ordered” him not question her or cause a problem. He further related that his wife sent him to buy food to cook on the same day, and on his return the woman again went missing. Assibad claimed his wife could not be trusted as he had video camera evidence that proves she is a cheat.
He maintained his innocence and begged the court to grant him bail. The prosecution asked that conditions be applied with the bail. Assibad was placed on a bond to keep the peace.
He is expected back in court on January 13 at Providence Magistrate’s Court.
