On Sunday the GTC/PM Volleyball team led by National U-19 Setter, Jason
Seelochan, overcame the spirited challenge of Rollers of New Amsterdam and the blistering hot sun to register their first lien on the Reggie Goberdhan Memorial Volleyball Trophy, when the finals of the league competition was held at the GTM Court in New Amsterdam.
GTC/PM trumped 3 sets to 2; the scores were 25-18, 23-25, 17-25, 25-20 and 18-16.
The Reggie Goberdhan Memorial League Competition organized by the Berbice Volleyball Association, commenced in July last year and was played in two zones – Zone One Lower Corentyne and Zone Two New Amsterdam-Canje.
At the conclusion of the preliminary “home and away” matches, GTC/PM emerged the winner in Zone One and Rollers of New Amsterdam winner of Zone Two.
The final was witnessed by a small crowd and the sponsors of the competition, Mary and Sue Goberdhan, who pledged their support for a bigger competition in 2012. At the conclusion of the final, trophies and medals were handed over by the sponsors to the winner and the runner-up. Quacy Matherson of GTC/PM received the MVP trophy.
