Five passengers on an outgoing E-Z Jet Airlines yesterday opted out of travelling with that service after it twice developed mechanical problems as it was about to depart the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
This was confirmed by an official at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport who said that initially, the plane had developed a problem with the ground power unit.
The official explained that the flight had arrived in Guyana at 06:30hrs and was scheduled to leave at 09:50hrs but did not until three hours later.
According to the airport official, the second problem was detected when the pilot was taxi-ing along the runway and his indicators pointed out the problem.
The official explained that as a precautionary measure the plane did not take off and the passengers were deplaned.
When the problem was rectified however, this did not allay the fears of at least five passengers who opted to book different flights.
Three of the passengers made bookings on Delta Airlines while the other two decided on Caribbean Airlines.
E-Z Jet Airlines has since offered to reimburse the affected passengers.
According to senior aviation officials, pilots are trained not to ignore any problem regardless of how minuscule it may appear and as such the decision was taken by the pilot as a precautionary measure.
