With the close of the 2011 horseracing season, the over five weeks break should be enough for the horses to rest, recuperate and get themselves rejuvenated before they get back into action for the new season.
The racetracks, owners, trainers and grooms are also using the opportunity to reorganise. The turfites and the betting boys eagerly await the restart of the racing season to get into their act and enjoy top class racing.
The Horseracing season for 2012 will get cracking on Sunday February 5 with the customary season opening Sprint meet at the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf club (RCMTC) situated at Alness on the Corentyne Coast and formerly the Alness Turf Club.
The RCMTC, which undoubtedly has the best and fastest track in the country, starts the ball rolling with a grand one day eight event horserace meet which is organized by the club. Horseracing fans cannot ask for a better opening act.
Close to $3.5M in cash and trophies will be on offer and with all the animals well rested by then a scintillating and action packed day of racing is anticipated.
None of the events are over 1400M and is expected to bring the best sprinters in the country into action. Apart from the E& F and lower feature event, there are two three year old events with one for Guyana and West Indies Bred animals, while the other is for the locally bred three year olds, in addition to the G and H class gallops.
Banks DIH Limited is expected to confirm their sponsorship for the main feature E&F class event with the winner set to sprint away with $400,000over 1200M.
A number of other sponsors are expected to be on board for the day’s proceedings.
The other events listed are for the animals running in the 3yr old Guyana and West Indies Bred contest event, will be competing for first prize of $280,000 over 1400M.
The other three year old race for Guyana Bred horses has a winning money of $250,000 and will also be a 1200M affair.
The horse crossing the line first in the G class event first will be in line for a $200,000 payday in another 1400M race. The H1 and lower competitors will battle for a winning purse of $160,000 over 1200M.
There is a race for I1 and lower horses which has a winning purse of $130,000 and will be run over 1200M. The winner of the I3 contest will collect $100,000 and they will compete over 1200M. The final event is for J and K class Division 1&2 horses over 1100M has a winner’s money of $80,000.
The event will be held under the rules of The Guyana Horse racing Authority and Race time is 13:00hrs.
