A bandit took advantage of a terrified businessman’s fear by robbing him of $250,000, while the man was trying to secure himself in his house trying to escape from what he was sure was a robbery about to happen.
The bandit had posed as a customer and entered the business place of 49-year-old Indarpaul Tiwari, of Lot 44 Helena Number Two, Mahaica, on Saturday night.
Tiwari was in his store (at the bottom flat of his house) at the time.
Kaieteur News was told that around 18:15 hrs on Saturday, a man went to Tiwari’s store to purchase a bottle of Coca Cola and a pack of cigarettes.
The man left the store after making his purchase and returned about 15 minutes later and began to hit the counter and knock on the door to the store.
Sensing that the man was planning to rob him and fearing for his life, Tiwari ran to the back of the shop and locked the door leading to his house and started shouting “Thief! Thief!”
Upon peeping through his window, the frightened man saw a white motor car parked in front of his store with two other men.
After a few minutes the man who was hitting his door and counter later headed into the vehicle and it sped away.
Tiwari subsequently returned to his shop only to discover that $250,000 was missing.
Police ranks are currently investigating the matter.
