A fine all round performance by Fazeena Hamid guided Wakenaam All star to a comfortable 10 wicket victory over Wakenaam Titans in the lone female match of the Sans Souci Police Station and the Wakenaam Policing youth groups sponsored softball cricket competition at Belle Plaine, Wakenaam.
In the match which was of 6 overs duration, Wakenaam Titans batted first and managed 51-6 off their allotment of overs. Mortian Whyte led with 18 and Odessa Clarke assisted with 15 as Fazeena Hamid grabbed 3-12, Melissa Whyte 2-16 and Stephanie Toolsie 2-13.
Hamid then returned to stroke an unbeaten 25, while Lisa Ramrattan supported with 18 as All star ended on 52 without lost in 5 overs. The All star team received a trophy while Hamid copped the player of the match prize.
In other matches, Young Cavaliers defeated Melville by 6 wickets and Eastern Wakenaam overcame Cavaliers by 9 and 10 runs respectively.
Scores- Melville 55-8 in 8 overs (Bradley Whyte 22, Derwin Bacon 2-14, Bumeshwar Ramkissoon 2-15, Mahindra Dinban 2-15).
Young Cavaliers 56-4 in 6 overs. (Brandon Mansarally 41)
Eastern Wakenaam 121-8 in 10 overs (Seon Venture 46, Derwin Daniels 15, Melvorn Daniels 2-28). Cavaliers 112-6 in 10 overs.(Satrohan Shiwnandan 32, Satnarine Sahadeo15,Derwin Bacon 3-32, Seon Venture 2-23).
Eastern Wakenaam 122-7 in 10 overs (Seon Venture 42, Shoaib Namaz 22, Prem Shivcharran 3-32). Cavaliers 110-8 in 10 overs. (Zameer Zaman 52, Satnarine Sahadeo 25, Imran Khan 3-17). Young Cavaliers and Eastern Wakenaam who won the two best of three matches for the seniors took home the winning prizes while Mansarally of Young Cavaliers, Seon Venture of Eastern Wakenaam and Zameer Zaman of Cavaliers collected awards for the most outstanding players in the competition.
Sergeant in charge of the Sans Souci Police Station, Dennis Clarke, encouraged the youngsters to get more involved in sports and wish them well for the new year, while chairman of the Wakenaam N.D.C Zakir Khan, who is also a former chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee, told the players that sports plays an important part in an individual life and it helps to keep youngsters away from crimes and off the streets.
