The East Canje Lions Club as part of its continued Community outreach drive recently carried out a number of initiatives to the benefit of several persons in the East Canje, Berbice area.

The club, among its activities, distributed wheelchairs and walkers to differently-abled residents. Visits were also made to the Dharam Shala home situated under the Canje Bridge, where the residents were treated to goodies, including clothing, food and snacks.
A children’s end-of-year party was also held at the Clubs Den in Adelphi, East Canje.
The East Canje Lions club also has a number of other plans on stream including an Eye Clinic set for Sunday 22nd January at the club’s Den, where persons will be examined by qualified personnel’s and fitted with spectacles or given treatment.
The East Canje Lions Club was formed in 1978. The club during the year undertook a number of community projects throughout the Canje area. They also presented a number of wheelchairs to persons with various disabilities in the East Canje and New Amsterdam areas.
Among some of the major projects undertaken was the construction of the Adelphi Market while several bus sheds were also built in the East Canje area.
Pedestrian crossings were also painted at the entrances of the various schools. The provision of spectacles was also done from time to time; while visits were made to Bara Cara up the Canje River.
During 2012, the club plans to continue and expand on its community projects.
President, Madan Ramadhar, a retired school teacher thanked the members for their stewardship during the year and wished the wider community and their sponsors all the best for 2012.
