The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary throughout the year 2012 in which the club will be hosting a number of fund raising events and activities aimed at achieving the objectives of fostering the development of the infrastructure , practice facilities for the benefit of its cricketers development and the wider community.
The public would have earlier learnt about their celebrations with the recently held Old Year’s night Ball at the club’s pavilion on 31st December, 2011.
During, the month of January, the club will be holding its usual end of month last Friday Club Nights and these are expected to be followed by many other activities over the coming months.
The Regional T20 viewing has been an annual feature on their calendar and it begins today with matches that are being played in Antigua, while those scheduled to be played in Barbados will follow.
Today’s viewing of the matches coincides with the official launch of the DCC’s Centenary Year Celebrations.
The DCC in an effort to engender maximum support for the embattled Guyana Cricket Team, while at the same time honour Christopher Barnwell’s ascendency to the Captaincy, has decided to show all the T20 games on wide screen television at the Club’s venue, Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown live on ESPN.
The aim according to a release is to create a cricket village with a similar atmosphere to those in Antigua and Barbados where the games would be played.
It added that the public viewing would be undertaken in an engaging and cricket friendly ambience.
The fact that the public would be in an environment which has served the game for a hundred [100] years and produced great cricketers such as the legendary Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs, the Harper brothers (Mark and Roger) and Roy Fredericks, promises to make the viewing of the games an electrifying experience.
In this regard, during each match the DCC would avail surround sound system, music, food, drinks, happy hours and promotions throughout the tournament.
Members of the public are invited to visit the Club to view all the games free of charge and support the Christopher Barnwell lead Guyana team in their quest to retain the Regional T20 Cup.
