A fisherman who decided that fishing alone cannot work and so decided to try his hand at something else has been caught and jailed.
Stanley Edwards, 27, of Orealla, Upper Corentyne River, is now spending the next nine months in prison on a charge of break and enter and larceny of a dwelling house. The penalty was imposed by Magistrate Fabio Azore after the man appeared before her at the Whim Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.
According to Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira on December 31, Edwards broke and entered the dwelling house of Davenand Rajunandan at Crabwood Creek and stole one carton of cigarettes, one bicycle pump, groceries and two bicycle tubes.
The virtual complainant had secured his premises and had left his home around 06:00 hrs on the day in question to go to the market. On his return around 10:30 hrs he discovered one of the windows broken, and upon entering the house he discovered the articles missing.
A report was made and after investigating Edwards was arrested and charged. Some of the items were recovered on him.
In another matter which occurred on the same day, Edwards was stole a quantity of items from Sarwan Chandradat. The facts of the matter were that on the day in question the Virtual Complainant who is a fisherman secured his boat at Crabwood Creek with a gas bottle, a mattress and a hand lamp and went out to sell. On his return he discovered the items missing.
He made checks in the area and found the defendant with the items in another boat. A report was made and Edwards was arrested and charged.
In his defence the man said that he saw the items in the boat and decided to take them, especially the mattress since he wanted it to sleep on.
He was fined $25,000 or one month in jail on this charge.
