Dear Editor,
My grandfather always thought me one thing – a corrupt public official and a street thug are the same professionals – beast of prey who have disassociated themselves from the rest of humanity and can now see the rest of society in the same way as a fisherman treat with fishes.
After observing the front page picture by Kaieteur News which created some strong impressions with respect to a Government official, I thought the better response from the party that felt aggrieved would have been proof of innocence with a subsequent demand for an apology from the newspapers.
Instead, one observes an attempt to use the Courts to put a cloak over one’s alleged actions, albeit temporarily, from the eyes of the public, with a hope that the issue will go away. The public relations damage is already done and most Guyanese have arrived at a conclusion and do not have to await the Court case.
The PPP and its top people do not have a credible track record on taking firm action against corruption or from staying away from corrupt practices and thus irreparable damage is done to that organization whenever they run to the Courts.
Why do you think the AFC was able to take some 10,000 plus votes from the PPP in Central Corentyne only a couple of months ago? It was not magic; it was a gross despondency by an increasing number in the electorate. I further observe President Ramotar defending this Government official without any due process being applied to the pictoral allegation.
This was the first grave political mistake of the Ramotar Presidency. Guysuco properties belong to the people and if those assets were used to empower a few by devouring the many then the Guyanese society is clearly moving in the wrong direction and will be called upon to take corrective actions.
I close with a quote from Thomas Jefferson and he said “experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind”. I personally cannot find a better quote to reflect on this alleged plunder of the assets of the poor by the few connected in the rich political class.
We have just ended the Jagdeo term of office where many mansions were built especially in Pradoville 2 with many allegations against those mansions being made with little or no accountable answers. The least one expected from President Ramotar is a call for due process to be applied to this new set of allegations. And it is not even two months yet into the new Government? Shucks!
