Two teenagers are lucky to be alive after they jumped from the verandah of their two-storey house while it was crumbling to the ground.
Fanilla Reddy, 16, sustained minor injuries while her younger brother, Nicoloi Reddy, 14, was unharmed.
The concrete structure which was erected about five years ago once stood at Lot 898 Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. It belonged to the teens’ parents, Sharon and Nicolas Reddy.
The teens would have probably been hurt had it not been for their neighbour, Sonia Rajkumar, who alerted them that their house was collapsing.
The woman recounted that she heard a loud crumbling noise emanating from the Reddy’s residence and upon inquiring it was observed that the back of the house was caving in. She immediately shouted for the children who ran to the front of the house to escape.
She said that the teens tried to open their side door but it was jammed, forcing them to jump from their verandah.
