Prize winners of the recently concluded GFA / Banks Beer Knockout Cup officially received their rewards during an impressive ceremony that was held, at the Banks DIH Sports Club.
The occasion saw in attendance Executives of the major sponsor including Assistant Managing Director / Marketing Director George McDonald, Marketing Executive Carlton Joao, PRO Troy Peters, Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste, Banks Beer Brand manager Brian Choo-Hen, GFA President Vernon Burnett, Vice-Presidents Ivor Thompson and Mark Phillips, well wishers and teams’ representatives.
Joao speaking to a packed audience first praised the GFA for organizing a well run tournament which according to him exceeded all expectations despite the late decision to pull off the event.
He then congratulated the teams for exhibiting a high quality of skills throughout the tournament, while recognition was also paid to the fans and everyone connected to the event.
Burnett in his remarks thanked all the sponsors, especially Banks DIH, who he reminded was the first entity to jump on board in an effort to provide some consolation to the teams that were overlooked for the other year end tournament.
“I would like to say a big thank you to every entity that came on board, but more particularly Banks DIH, they really stood by us and for this we in the GFA is extremely grateful,” Burnett said.
Burnett also recognised the support of McNeal Enterprises, Coalpot Restaurant, Talk is Cheap Internet Café among others.
The winning team Alpha ‘the hammer’ United walked away with $3million and a trophy, runner-up Fruta Conquerors collected $1.5million, 3rd placed Beacons received $500,000 and 4th placed Sunburst Camptown took home $250,000.
Fruta Conquerors striker Marko Marcus and Alpha United’s Andrew Murray Jnr were voted the tournament Most Valuable Player and Highest Goalscorer respectively, while Fruta Conquerors Colin Edwards was named Best Goalkeeper and Northern rangers –Most Improved Team.
Also, at the presentation ceremony, East Bank Demerara champions Banks DIH received their prizes as well.
