Lioneon Odell, 24, of Line Path was described as a jailbird. On Wednesday he was sentenced to 12 months in jail when he appeared before a magistrate and pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery under arms.
The case for the prosecution as presented by Corporal Roberto Figueira was that on Saturday December 31, last, at Line Path Skeldon, Corentyne, while in company with others and armed with a knife, he robbed Gainder Ram Harrack, a taxi driver of $14,000 before making good his escape.
The incident occurred about 12:45 hrs when Odell and company hired the taxi to take them to a location at Springlands. Upon arrival at the destination, instead of paying, Odell pulled out a knife and held it at the throat of the driver and took away his money before escaping.
The matter was reported and Odell who is a regular was identified, arrested and charged. In court he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency before he was sentenced. Odell has so far served over seven years in jail.
