– captured suspect reportedly confesses
Police have detained a man who allegedly stabbed his cousin to death early yesterday morning during
an argument at an Abattoir in Helena No. 1, Mahaica.
According to reports 25 year-old Orin Anthony Forde of Helena No.1 was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mahaica Hospital at around 08:30 hours yesterday. Forde was reportedly stabbed in the left side by a cousin who has been identified as Mark Major, at an Abattoir which is located a few houses away from where Forde lived.
The suspect fled the scene, but was captured by police late yesterday evening on a dam in the area. Kaieteur News understands that he has confessed to the crime.
The dead man’s stepmother Dhancumarie Forde said that Forde worked in the interior and was scheduled to return to work today.
“He wake up and I say ‘boy come eat your breakfast’ and he say he coming back just now, he going to collect some money…and within minutes I get a message saying Orin get stab and he deh on the ground with he guts coming out.”.
The stepmother added that she and other relatives raced to the location but by the time they got there Forde was in a car and on his way to hospital.
“When I see he is some boys from the abattoir had he in the car and they had a piece of cloth tie around he belly.”
But by the time Forde reached the hospital he was already dead.
Meanwhile, other employees at the abattoir related that they heard Forde enquiring from his cousin about some money the suspect allegedly owed him. Not long after both men were heard raising their voices.
“We just hear like Orin asking Mark for some money and all I see is Mark bore Orin with a knife right under he heart and he (the suspect) pull out back the knife and run away,”.
Another man said he then noticed Forde lying on the ground with blood gushing from a wound to the ribs on his left side. The man said he contacted the police before assisting in taking the injured Forde to the Mahaica Hospital.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the closely knit community as many persons in the area said both the victim and the suspect grew up together and were very close.
“Me ain’t know what went wrong. Them boys really cool; they very helpful around the area and besides them is cousins. Everywhere you see one you does see the other one,” one resident lamented.
