After numerous complaints about the contamination of Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) fuel
in Essequibo, the company is addressing the problem and has immediately delivered fresh gasoline supplies to the depot.
“Arising out of recent complaints of alleged excessive engine smoke observed by outboard customers and rise in engine sump oil observed by car customers, using gasoline purchased from Guyoil Dealers on the Essequibo Coast, we wish to advise that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the alleged ‘tainted’ fuel,” Guyoil officials said in a release yesterday.
Some of the managerial steps taken in the interest of customers and the Company are: sale of gasoline has been stopped at the Adventure depot and at all dealers on the Essequibo Coast; alleged ‘tainted’ gasoline bought by dealers was returned to the depot, and gasoline at the depot will be disposed of.
This week Guyoil gas stations on the Essequibo Coast were closed after the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) found that the fuel they were selling was contaminated.
Subsequently, GEA conducted tests at the Guyoil Gas Stations on Wednesday and all the stations were closed. They were reopened after the fuel was replaced.
Scores of taxi drivers and private vehicle owners complained that they had experienced problems with their vehicles after purchasing gas from Guyoil.
Collectively, vehicle owners on the Essequibo Coast complained of engine seizures and fuel pump malfunctions.
