In an effort to enhance the development of football in Guyana the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will launch an Under-16 Training Programme, the National Sports Commission Football Academy, from Saturday (tomorrow), January 07 from 08:00hrs – 10:00hrs at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Complex, Carifesta Avenue.
The programme will commence with the players from Georgetown listed below with training sessions scheduled for Saturdays from 08:00hrs – 10:00hrs and Tuesdays from 16:00hrs to 18:00hrs at the same venue.
The programme will be extended to outlying areas such as Port Kaituma, Mabaruma, Hosororo, Mahdia, Rupununi, Essequibo Islands, Berbice, Linden, East and West Coast, East and West Bank Demerara. Each of these areas will have training sessions for at least 2 – 3 weeks.
The purpose of the Academy is to prepare young players for future selection to National Under-17 and Under-20 teams, Inter Guianas Games teams and ultimately Senior National Teams.
All sessions will be conducted by National Sports Commission Football Coach, Gordon Braithwaite.
The following players are invited to train from Saturday while players not invited but eligible due to age can turn up for training also. All players must be born on or after 01/01/96.
The release from the Ministry stated, the National Sports Commission embarked on a special programme to focus on the very young to get them fully involved in sports at the school level.
Our youths, particularly our students are showing genuine interest in sports. Hence, the National Sports Commission is accepting the challenge to plan programmes to get them to participate in various sport discipline, so that they can develop a positive attitude and genuine interest in sports specifics.
Those called are: Emanuel Simon, Chester Joseph, Shamar Wilson, Romel Legall, Romello Fraser, Andre Downer, Randy Layne, Kareem Knights, Kevin Andrews, Fernando Oliviera, Jerry DaSilva, Quincy Lawrence, Ronaldo Dover, Keith Cairns, Wayne Murray, Job Caesar, Jermaine Scott, Seth Williams, Alpha McPhoy, Jermaine Fletcher, Jarel Thom, Nyron Joseph, Keon Solomon, Wayne Halley, Isaiah Reddy and Trevon Tucker.
