The Guyana Defence Force has launched an investigation into the disappearance of a magazine along with 10 live rounds from its armoury. According to reports, the ammunition, which belong to a 9mm calibre weapon, were discovered missing sometime in early December last year. This publication was told that two Duty Officers have since been questioned in connection with the missing items.
Meanwhile, an army official told this publication that they are in the process of checking their stocks to ensure that all are in intact.
“I will not say that nothing is missing but we are carrying out an investigation and we are checking our stock before we say definitely if items are missing.”
There are reports that the magazine with the rounds went missing after one of the Duty Officers left Base Camp Ayangana unauthorized, with a 9 mm pistol and the magazine filled with ammunition. This publication was told that the rank went to a popular night spot and it was later discovered that the ammunition and magazine were missing. The pistol has since been accounted for.
Investigations are ongoing.
