Clive Lloyd sacrifices local cricket for personal gain—GCB source

(IMC) has been seen as a case of selling out Guyanese cricket. Some said that Mr. Lloyd has sacrificed local cricket for personal gain.
He is aware of the International Cricket Council position on the involvement of Governments in cricket. The ICC is firm that Government should not be in control of cricket.
Lloyd, after his retirement from the game, served as a manager for some West Indies touring teams, and served as ICC match referee on numerous tours overseas. Just a year ago, he submitted his nomination for the Presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board.
The West Indies Cricket Board, in support of its position has come out in support of the Guyana Cricket Board and has refused to accept the Guyana team sent by the IMC.
A source close to the GCB said that after the government, which formed the IMC, headed by Lloyd, placed locks on the offices of the Guyana Cricket Board, the local cricketers were at a disadvantage. They had no representative.
Mr. Lloyd secured a lucrative six-month contract from the Guyana Government. Some placed the contract fee at some US$200,000. This, a source said, influenced Lloyd’s decision to head the IMC.
His stance, then, against the dictates of the Board, seems mindboggling. Yesterday, he lamented the decision by the WICB and placed the blame firmly at the feet of the Guyana Government and the GCB.
The Guyana Government made a decision to take over the running of the game in the country by implementing an IMC chaired by Clive Lloyd, a veteran of the sport.
