– accomplices walk free
Two men who were charged for the murder of two Brazilian businessmen in April of 2008 had their matter discharged by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on Tuesday.
However, their alleged accomplice has been committed to the High Court to face trial by jury after a prima facie case was made out against him in the shooting death of Severino Pequeno Alves Junior and Francisco Lima.
Charles Hackett, 43, of New Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and 27-year old Lloyd Sadloo of Hill Street, Albouystown, walked out of the courtroom as free men at the end of a preliminary inquiry into the murders.
Ryan Clementson, of Second Street, Mocha/Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, Clementson was not as fortunate and he is currently awaiting a date for his trial in the Supreme Court.
The murder charges against the three men stemmed from an armed robbery, which occurred at the Regent Guest House and Restaurant on Regent Road Bourda.
Intensive investigations by the police had led to their arrests for the April 16 shooting of Alves Junior and Lima.
Sadloo who was the last of the trio to be detained, was shot by police ranks in La Penitence Street, Albouystown.
He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he attempted to escape in a waiting vehicle. Sadloo’s attempt was squashed when his police guard and hospital security nabbed him just before he could leave the hospital compound.
