An unfortunate defensive kick from Caledonia AIA’s goalkeeper on December 6 at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium,
Marabella, Trinidad and Tobago left Vurlon Mills, one of Guyana’s gifted players on the grass helpless to be immediately rushed to the hospital and admitted for a surgery.
The horrifying incident which occurred in the six yards box in the first half of the game during a heated clash between T&TEC Football Club and Kashif and Shanghai 2012 Knock-out Football Fiesta champs, Caledonia AIA, saw both teams vying to qualify for the finals of championships to play W Connection.
The impact endured by the member of Guyana’s Golden Jaguars team that evening, saw him damaging some ligaments and cartilages around his right knee.
Interacting with the injured player online, Kaieteur Sport was made to understand that the incident occurred whilst he was approaching the ball in the six yards box in attempt to register the first goal for T&TEC.
The twenty-three years old player who had a previous surgery on the same knee said the tragedy transpired when he received a good pass from his team-mate and attempted to register a goal but was halted by Caledonia AIA’s goalkeeper when they clashed.
“I was playing center midfield andwas in control having a great game but stopped when I had a clash Caledonia AIA’s goalkeeper…he went with both legs at my knees and that was where my control ended,” Guyana’s World Cup Qualifiers player said.
Mills who thought the incident was not done deliberately was left motionless on the ground, with numerous questions crossing his mind.
“I could not have felt my leg, I thought it was broken, however I remained calm but for some reason I felt I should have panicked since the pain was more than me,” the player who recently signed a four years contract with T&TEC related to this publication.
Mills also said his main question on his mind was if he would have been capable to represent Guyana for the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers in June against Mexico, El Salvador and Costa Rica.
Mills mind was soon cleared when the results from the X-ray showed that no bones were broken, however the situation was still serious as both ligaments and cartilages in his right knee were utterly damaged and called for a surgery which was conducted a few days later.
The injured player is currently temporary under therapy for four months to attain full recovery from the horrifying event and hopes by God’s will that he will be able to play in the World Cup Qualifiers. (Juanita Hooper)
