Five gunmen stormed the Mahogany Hotel at Number 78 Village, Corriverton, around 20:45hrs Tuesday evening and there are accusations that policemen may have been involved.
According to Assistant Manager of the hotel, James Charles, two of the five men are known police officers in that Berbice area. They approached the security guard downstairs and asked to rent a room.
The guard reportedly told them that the hotel was closed but he would ascertain from the manager whether he could accommodate them. The men, however, pushed their way through the door, after the guard had opened it, and made their way upstairs.
Charles, who lives in the hotel was in his room at the time and heard the commotion. The men started to bang on his door and demanded his presence.
They then forced their way into his room and started to beat him. Charles managed to fight them off and the men ran off downstairs to a parked black Mitsubishi Lancer.
Charles, who attempted to follow, was stopped by several bottles that were hurled in his direction.
The Assistant Manager reportedly told police the names of the policemen. He also sought a medical at the Skeldon Hospital for injuries he sustained.
Police say investigations are continuing.
