Gasoline consumers on the Essequibo Coast are confronted with a serious fuel problem.
This problem is currently posing serious risks, especially to vehicle owners.
The fault, they say, lies with gasoline purchased from Guyoil outlets in the Region Two area.
One hire car driver explained that he was aware of the problem and that the fuel sold on the Essequibo Coast at Guyoil outlets was “problems”.
According to the driver, he experienced starting problems recently and later learnt that a number of other vehicle owners were experiencing similar issues.
“Right now all the Guyoil outlets are closed in the region and we car men will have to park our vehicles.”
Another hire car driver said that the current problem is costly to vehicle owners.
Kaieteur News visited a mechanic shop at Land of Plenty recently and found several vehicles parked for gas-related problems.
The mechanic said vehicle owners have been experiencing the problem for almost two weeks now and from all indications it was tainted gasoline.
According to the mechanic, the engine would tend to seize up, and the fuel pump would be damaged.
At present, all of the Guyoil outlets on the Essequibo Coast are out of service. Senior members from the Guyana Energy Agency, who are aware of the situation, have visited the coast, conducting tests and inspections at Guyoil outlets.
