The Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) under the chairmanship
of Hilbert Foster held several activities to coincide with the 2011 Christmas season. The activities also concluded the BCB programme for the year which was described as highly successful.
The Board donated food hampers valued at $60,000 to the fifteen umpires of the Berbice Umpires Association, $150,000 worth of clothing, toys and goodies to the Alpha Children’s Home and over $200,000 worth of footwear, clothing, goodies and food items to the Dharma Shala Senior Citizens Home.
Secretary of the BCB, Angela Haniff, also visited the Children Ward of the New Amsterdam Hospital to distribute toys on Christmas Day. Additionally, the Special Events Committee also handed over to the BCB, calendars for 2012 valued at $30,000.
Foster, Treasurer of the BCB, Anil Beharry, and Secretary Haniff, spearheaded the 2011 activities, the third successive year that the Berbice Board has hosted activities for Christmas. Foster explained that with a highly successful year already achieved, the BCB wanted to put a smile on the faces of less fortunate children and elders.
He expressed gratitude to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club and Food for the Poor (Guy) Inc. for their support in making the Christmas activities a success while stating that the BCB in 2012 would continue to make a positive difference with the hosting of numerous charity outreach programmes in both regions 5 and 6.
