Plaisance’s eldest resident, Doris Glasgow Morrison has passed away. Morrison who celebrated
her 105th birthday on October 1, 2011 made her earthly departure on December 23, 2011.
The East Coast Demerara citizen died in her sleep at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. She was laid to rest yesterday. The funeral service was held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Plaisance and was attended by her close relatives and friends.
Maxine Straker related that her grandmother who had high fever for several days was admitted to the hospital a few days prior to her death. She added that Mrs. Morrison had no other ailments.
Morrison celebrated her last birthday in the company of family, close friends and the then Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Priya Manickchand. A simple thanksgiving ceremony was held in celebrating her life during which guests sang many of her favourite hymns.
Morrison was born in Buxton on October 1, 1906. She has one surviving daughter, nine grand children, 26 great grand children and three great-great grand children. Morrison’s mother died at the age of 92.
