Horseracing’s grand finale with over $7.6M to be won set for tomorrow

With the hype and excitement getting really heated, all roads lead to the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park West Coast Berbice for tomorrow’s, New Year’s Day, Grand Finale of the 2011 horseracing calendar.
With Horseracing being dubbed the King OF Sports all efforts are being made by the Organizers to keep it that way. The prize money has been upped to over $7.6M making it one of the richest New Year’s Day event in Guyana. One new race has been added to the day’s events which will give it a full blanket of races that will cater for horses of all categories.
A massive crowd is expected to throng the venue for the traditional New Year’s horserace meet and as such the organizers are making sure all arrangements are in place in what is expected to be a clash of champions.
The organizers have now added an event for Two year old Guyana Bred Horses which will see the winner racing away with $300,000 and trophy over 1100M. The top horses in that even are I Want Revenge and Watch My shadow.
All the top horses are expected to be on show because of the hefty pay day in the making and the stables will want to make a lasting impression for the end of season event.
With the Jumbo Jet/Chattergoon stables on a high, the other stables will be looking for a good final showing. The likes of the Colin Elcock, Delmur P&P Syndicate stable, Shariff, Crawford, Habibulla, Jagdeo, Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal, Mahaicony, Rumours, Customs, Jagmohan/Jagroop, Ashrafalli, Night Eyes and Singh Racing stables among the others all set to compete and have a good day on the turf.
A number of top Jockeys from overseas will be in Guyana for the meet. Apart from the five that are already in the country strutting their stuff including the Jamaicans Andron Findlay and Brian Blake and Trinidadians Arthur Padmore, Neal Mohammed and Preayven  Badrie, three more including top rider Brian Harding out of Barbados will arrive in the country over the weekend, to show off their wares.
However the breed of Guyanese Riders will be looking to do their thing and stave off any challenge from the foreigners. Top rider Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul will be leading the way and looking for another dominant performance with the others including United States based riders Sunny Singh and Kumar Singh, Barbados based Carl Liverpool and locals Rupert ‘Put’ Ramnauth, Prem Chandra, Daniel ‘Buckman’ Flores, Kevin Paul, Mark Vassey, Krishna Singh, Navin Ally, Mahendra Sukhoo, Nascimento, Michael Sancho, Winston Apadhu and Kevin Richmond.   With two of the top local jockeys in Colin Ross and Paul Delph still out with injuries, those competing will be looking for another dominating performance.
Banks DIH Limited sponsors the feature B and Lower event with a massive $2M and Trophy up for grabs.  The winner is set to race away with $1M and the Banks DIH Trophy over 1600M. The lineup is expected to include Jet Set Go, The Message Grande de Roja, Donut Prince,  Miss Orientate, Wad a Luck,  Star tracer, Fairy Landing, Clever cat, Who So ever, Dubai Duchess and Zelik among others.
The three year old 1400M co-feature race for Guyana and the West Indies born and bred horses has a winners money of $500,000 with top horses such as Technology, Captain Crook, Face the Fire, Damascus Dream, Work Force, Bridal Stone Corner, Swing Easy and Prado’s Gold.
The D Class 1300M event has a winner’s prize of $500,000 with Home Bush Baby, Night Crescendo, Who is On the Case, Wad A Luck, Star Tracer, Majestic and Face the Music in the running.
The race for two year old Guyana and the West Indies horses for a $400,000 first prize over 1300M will see Settle in Seattle, Serenity, Times Have Change and It Feels Like Gold, and Red Cloud battling.
The F class event is for a $350,000 winner’s money over 1400M with Miracle Run and Top of the line expected to continue their battle.
The G and lower showdown has a winners’ purse of $ 400,000 over 1100M.
There is an H class race that has the winning set at $220,000 and is a 1400M event.
There are two I class events, both over 1300M the first is for horses classified ‘I’ and lower and will see the winner carting off $180, 000, while I3 will see the winner taking home $160,000.
Outstanding individual performers will be presented with trophies and other accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich, Proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The Race will be held under the rules of the Rising Sun Turf Club and Bugle time is 12:30 hrs.
