A family on the Upper Corentyne area is perturbed at the actions of three girls
(two of whom are underaged) which resulted in the girls being taken by three men to a house in the back of the village and was possibly violated.
According to the girls’ grandmother, their ages are 17, 15; and their cousin 14. They were out shopping in Corriverton on Christmas Eve night with their aunt. All of their parents reside overseas but they were left in the care of the grandmother.
During a heavy rainfall just after 6:00pm that night, the grandmother told the girls to stand outside the Mahogany Hotel and wait for her while she went to look for her husband. Upon returning about half an hour later to the Mahogany Hotel location, she discovered that the girls were gone.
The aunt immediately made spot checks in the area but failed to find them. She then contacted the grandmother, who immediately launched another search which went late into the night. There were no signs of the girls.
The girls’ extended families then became very worried. They searched the entire area frantically all night. An aunt was then tipped off by residents in the area that the girls had spent the night at a house allegedly rented by one Swarswattie Budhoo at Lot 4, Section C, #74 Village.
The aunt then turned up immediately at that address and created a ruckus. With the assistance of a Community Policing Group (CPG) officer, the woman got the girls to emerge from the building and taken to the police station. They were later medically examined at the Skeldon Hospital.
The girls later said that Budhoo allegedly showed up and asked them why they were standing there. They said that they told Budhoo they did not have any cash to get a ride home. One of them added that Budhoo immediately summoned a Tapir (a vehicle) and took them to her house.
However, that version of the story was rejected by several sources, who requested not to be identified. Sources revealed that three young men picked the girls up and took them to the house.
“Three boys picked them up in front of Mahogany Hotel and took them to the house”, one source said.
“The lady rents the rooms; [it is a] secret hideout. She encourages people young, young girl children…she a spoil them children”, another source said.
“We understand that is every time she [Budhoo] does do them thing this. That day [Christmas morning], like she late to get them out [of the house]. This is the life that she living (the owner for the house).” Many persons have accused the said woman of “living a dirty life”.
Police on the Corentyne are actively pursuing Budhoo and the three young men. Kaieteur News discovered the house, which many call a “brothel”, empty and locked up, gates and all, on Thursday.
The grandmother related that the girls are “shielding the people [the boys and the woman]”. She noted that the girls are very rude at times and that they all had their own cell phones, which she later seized. She wants Budhoo to be charged with kidnapping, but sources opined that the three boys should really be charged, since it is widely suspected that they were sexually violated in the house.
Abdul Neesan, the Chairman of the #74 CPG, stated that he had been dealing with a lot of these cases on the Corentyne. Many underage girls are getting involved in sexual activities in the most elaborate manners. “The police are not putting pressure on the perpetrators. You just pay some money and the matter is over”, he opined.
He noted that when asked about the status of previous sexual underage matters that are pending; the police always say that the matters “are with the DPP [Director of Public Prosecutions]”.
