Twenty- one year old Michael Persaud, who is accused of murdering his reputed wife, was yesterday remanded
to jail when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton. The man, who allegedly killed 20-year old Madhuri Padumdeo, was not required to plead to the indictable offence at his first court appearance. He is expected back in court on January 16 for the police to present their reports.
It is alleged that on December 22, the man murdered the mother of his child at Lot 8 North Sophia, Bel Air, where they had previously shared a home.
According to reports, Persaud, who apparently felt good yesterday with the public attention he was getting, allegedly murdered the woman and lay beside her in their bed. The man was found fast asleep next to the dead woman.
Padumdeo was found naked with an electrical cord wrapped around her neck. The cane juice vendor was found dead by her mother at around 11:00hours after the woman had made checks to determine why the woman had not gone to work.
It is still unclear as to why the man allegedly committed the act, but it was indicated by the couple’s neighbours that the couple argued and fought on a regular basis. The family of the suspect also indicated that the dead woman had kept several outside relationships.
