Five persons were remanded to jail by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, on a charge of using threatening language and assaulting each other.
Raymond St. Romain, his wife Jennifer St. Romain, Randolph De Santos, his wife Kim De Santos and her cousin Fala Khan, all of Lot 48 Sheriff Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charges that said that the parties assaulted each other and used threatening language.
The St Romains and Khan were accused of abusing the De Santoses, while the De Santoses were both accused of abusing the St Romains and assaulting Khan.
It was revealed that the persons all live in the same yard and were not on speaking terms due to a previous incident that also landed them before the court.
Representing the St Romains, Defense Attorney, Mortimer Coddett, reiterated that the persons all lived in the same yard and that the feud had stemmed from a property dispute over who had permission to perform certain tasks on the property.
The lawyer said that it was not the first time the persons had appeared in court. He claimed that on the last occasion the persons appeared over a broken pair of spectacles which resulted from a slap. He said his client had to be reimbursed for the glasses.
He further made a submission requesting that his clients be sent on their own recognizance. He also advised that both parties sign a bond to keep the peace but should be set free on self- bail.
The magistrate subsequently expressed her disappointment towards the adults.
“Tell you what; this is what I am going to do. You will all be remanded to jail. I think you all need a cool out time. You are too big to be behaving with nonsense.”
She said the persons were acting like little children and they all deserved to be locked up over night.
The defendants are expected back in court today. The magistrate is to decide then what to do with them.
