Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker,
yesterday announced plans to re-evaluate properties to facilitate Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and Municipalities’ rates and taxes assessment.
Minister Whittaker made this disclosure yesterday at the ministry while providing the highlights of the year just gone by.
Whittaker, in a government statement, said that the ministry has been harangued by a number of NDCs and municipalities over the need to have a re-evaluation of properties for the purpose of rates assessment.
They have complained that the current rates and taxes collected for many properties are below the current market value for the said properties.
The Minister said that the ministry will address this issue in the coming year and will also facilitate training programmes for those who will assist in this re-evaluation exercise.
