A severe beating has left a 15-year-old boy nursing serious injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he and an accomplice were caught red-handed trying to break into a Meadow Brook house.
The teen who hails from D’Urban Backlands said he was handed over to police officers at around 10:00 hours on Monday, last, along with his 18-year-old friend, who also received a thrashing that caused him to seek medical attention.
The teenager said that while he is being kept under close watch by police security at the hospital, his friend is currently at the Brickdam Station assisting officers with investigations. The boy, who said he was lured by his older friend to the Meadow Brook residence, told Kaieteur News that he was stabbed and beaten so badly that he is swollen all about his body.
He claimed that on the day of the incident, his friend, who had gone several times to the residence, took him to the person’s home with the intention of breaking into it. The boy said they went to the back door of the premises where they used a hacksaw to cut the padlock on the grill door and a crowbar to prize the door open.
He said they had not yet entered the house when he saw a neighbour peep from a window. He said he urged his partner to leave the premise since he noticed the woman, but the older boy refused. He said in about 10 minutes the house owners pulled up in a vehicle.
The teen related that they heard the vehicle pull up and sought to hide at the side of the house, but they were surrounded by a number of individuals. The lad said they were then beaten. He said that one man had a cutlass while the owner had a gun in his possession. The boy also said the men cuffed them about their bodies, and they were kicked repeatedly.
He claims that the owner threatened to shoot them but they were spared after a female companion emerged from the vehicle begging for them. He said the woman told the men that she knew him since he was the son of one of her friends. The boy claimed that the woman begged the men to call the police.
He said the man told them they were lucky and later handed them over to the authorities.
The teen said they were taken to the hospital, but only he received injuries that caused him to be admitted. Charges are expected to be instituted against the youngsters.
