A 51-year-old man is at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)
nursing a gunshot wound to his left leg after a failed robbery attempt caused his attackers to open fire on him.
Andrew Correia, a sales clerk of the GTM insurance company, was shot around 08:00 hours last Saturday while delivering issues of the New Year’s calendar to clients of his firm. The man who hails from ‘B’ Field Sophia said he was not attacked or beaten by the men, but explained that he was shot because his attackers were unable to make off with any valuables.
Correia recounted that on the day in question he was on his way to a client’s house at Section ‘A’ Liliendaal, Sophia, when he noticed two men following him. The man said he suspected that the men were going to rob him, so as he approached the gate, he threw the bag he had in his possession into the yard of the client and began to call out for help. Correia said he was subsequently shot in the leg.
The man said there was not much to recall except that after seeing the men leave the scene, he passed out.
“I don’t know what really happened,” Correia said, “I kept going in and out of consciousness, and the only thing I remember was waking up in the hospital.”
Correia reiterated that the men shot him because they could not get the bag. He further explained that all he had in his bag was calendars.
