A robbery suspect is wishing for his black cake and pepper pot in the Georgetown Hospital courtesy of the police, who shot him in the right leg during a confrontation on Friday.
Terence John, called ‘Johnny Dog’, is believed to be a suspect in the attempted robbery of businessman Rasheed Wahab on Friday morning.
Police, acting on information, went to Agricola to arrest the suspect when he reportedly opened fire on the ranks.
Earlier on Friday, about 11:00 hours, Wahab, 44, of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, was in a minibus that had stopped at the traffic lights at the junction of Water Lily Street, and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, when two men on a motorcycle drove up alongside.
The pillion rider, who was armed with a firearm, went to the front passenger door and attempted to pull Rasheed Wahab out of the vehicle.
But the minibus driver, realizing what was taking place accelerated and drove off.
The armed man discharged a round and grazed Wahab in the chest. Wahab was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
Following up with the investigations into the matter, about 17:00 hours the same day police ranks went to Second Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, in search of the suspect, Terrence John, called ‘Johnny Dog’, 29, of Flour Mill Road, Eccles.
“As the police ranks approached Terrence John, they came under fire and returned fire hitting him to his right leg. An unlicensed .32 pistol with six rounds and one spent shell have been recovered,” police said in a press release.
Terrence John is a suspect in a number of other armed robberies.
