He came to Guyana to have a fantastic Christmas but instead, he is nursing wounds
at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after he was attacked by two cutlass wielding men last Tuesday, at Number 65 village, Corentyne
The incident occurred minutes after 6:00 pm.
Injured is 29-year-old Hardat Sampat who came from Florida three months ago to spend some time with his family here.
According to Sampat, he was entering the “Koker Dam” to visit his father who worked further down in the dam as a fisher. He added that as he was walking in the dam he saw two guys coming out on a tractor.
When the tractor reached close to him, one of the guys jumped off and went berserk, instantly firing several chops across the man’s body.
Running for his life, Sampat jumped in a nearby trench.
While he was in the trench, he said that he heard the guys saying “Kill him! Kill him!” Fearing for his life, the victim remained in the water for two and a half hours until he was sure the guys were gone.
When he exited the water, he slowly walked out to the dam where he collapsed and was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital by his cousin. He was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and finally to the GPHC, where he is expected to spend at least three months.
While Sampat will be spending his Christmas at the Hospital, one of the perpetrators will spent this holiday at the Number 65 Police Station while the other perpetrator remains at large.
According to villagers the perpetrator resides in the said village.
