-four refused bail
Seven persons were charged yesterday in connection with last Wednesday’s 10M heist at a Church Street Western Union outlet. Four of the accused were remanded, while the remaining three were placed on $250,000 each on charges of robbery under arms.
The accused persons, including one female, were fingered for the alleged offence committed against Samantha Adonis and John Perez. The charge stated that Adonis was robbed of one Black Berry cell phone valued $40,000 while Perez was robbed of the 10M cash.
Brandon Dickson, Isaiah Hohenkirk, Brian Dickson, Christopher Rogers, Keith Lowenfield, Primia Boyce and Mona Pieria all appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry.
The accused, whose ages ranged from 18 to 40, were said to have robbed the money transfer entity with a handgun and later made good their escape. According to the prosecution, Brandon Dickson and Hohenkirk, around 22:00hours last Wednesday, entered the establishment located at 75 Church Street. At the time the owner, Perez, was locking up his business.
It is alleged that the duo pointed the firearm at Perez and took him back into the store. The accused allegedly took the phone from Adonis and the money from Perez.
The police said that investigations led to the arrest of Dickson and Hohenkirk, while further investigations led to the arrest of Brain Dickson, Rogers, Lowenfield, Boyce and Pereira.
The ranks alleged that while the first two persons committed the act, money was found at the home of Brian Dickson and Christopher Rogers which amounted to 6.9M. The other persons were implicated as they were supposed to get a cut of the cash for the plot.
The detained persons were represented by several lawyers, including attorneys Mark Waldron, Lester Caesar and Adrian Thompson. Each lawyer made bail applications for the defendants.
Waldron claimed that his clients were not flight risks and were prepared to face the court on any occasion. Thompson said that his clients were also prepared to face the court. He claimed that the sum the police claimed to have found at the home of the accused was 8M; he claimed that he received information that the police had stolen a portion of the lodged sum and were now claiming that 6.9M was recovered.
He also said that there are security cameras at the Western Union establishment and that police should have by now had that footage to solidify their charge. He said that the charge was placed prematurely on his clients and without proper investigations, as it is the Christmas season; hastily and without proper investigations. Thompson concluded that the accused would adhere to any conditions imposed by the court.
Brandon Dickson, Brian Dickson, Hohenkirk and Rogers were denied bail while Lowenfield, Boyce and Pereira are to post the stipulated sum.
The matter against the seven persons will continue on January 6, 2012.
