Man shot after dousing cops with gasoline

A man who doused police with gasoline in an attempt to escape during an operation to arrest him yesterday is currently nursing a gunshot wound to his left hand.
The cops were forced to shoot the man who became extremely violent when police responded to reports that he had earlier verbally abused neighbours in the Hampton Court area.
According to reports, Mohan Manniram, a/k Punta, of Hampton Court Village, Essequibo Coast, was involved in a bitter fight with his neighbours after verbally abusing them.
The neighbours reported the matter to the police at Anna Regina.
While police were conducting their investigations yesterday, Manniram reportedly became aggressive and poured gasoline on them, forcing the ranks to respond with some limited force, wounding him in his right thumb.
Police stated that a search was conducted on him and six grams of suspected cocaine and two grams of marijuana were found in his possession.
Manniram is currently receiving treatment for his injury at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Police had previously charged Mohan Manniram a/k Punta for having a large quantity of illegal fuel in his possession.
