Contrary to reports under the caption “Diplomatic vehicle torched” in
Thursday’s Edition of this newspaper, it has now been established that Alain Castermans of the European Delegation is the owner of the vehicle that was set afire at Lot 59, Anira Street, Queenstown. The vehicle did not belong to UNICEF Representative, Dr. Suleiman Braimoh as was previously stated.
Reports reveal that the guard on duty saw the vehicle burst into flames, shortly after midnight Tuesday.
The Guyana Fire Service was summoned by residents in the area but by the fire fighters arrived it was too late, since the vehicle was already badly damaged with only the front bonnet partially intact.
There were no immediate motives for the torching.
