Temporary power outage affecting traffic signals at the junction of Lamaha
and Camp Streets might have contributed to a two-car collision around 14:00 hrs yesterday.
Paul Panday, whose vehicle (212 Toyota Carina) landed in a gutter, inches away from a lamp pole on Lamaha Street following the collision, related that he was travelling west along Lamaha Street when another vehicle (Nissan PMM 5209) driven by a woman, hit his car’s rear.
Panday claimed that while navigating his car at the junction, a vehicle heading north along Camp Street stopped giving him clearance since the traffic signals were down. The woman he said swerved her car from behind the vehicle which had stopped, and continued to drive. This resulted in the collision.
The man related that after the vehicle landed in the gutter, he climbed out of and assisted his two passengers. Fortunately no one was injured. The accident was reported to the Eve Leary Police Station. There he was told that the Brickdam Police Station will be informed.
However, one hour after the accident Panday and the woman were still waiting for the police and a tow truck to arrive. Panday complained bitterly that his vehicle was sinking and the police were slothful in getting to the scene.
Around 15:00hrs the traffic signals were back in operation.
